Dog Boarding at Burbank Pet Sitting: What to Expect

Choosing where your dog will stay while you’re away is a big decision. You want them to be safe, comfortable, well cared for and enjoy their stay too.

At Burbank Pet Sitting, our dog boarding service is intentionally different from a traditional kennel or large boarding facility. Dogs stay in a home environment with access to a secure, fully walled backyard, individualized attention, and a daily routine designed around their needs.

Nearly every decision we make about boarding comes back to three priorities:

1. Your dog’s physical safety

2. Your dog’s mental and emotional well-being

3. Your peace of mind while you’re away

Here’s what that looks like in practice.

What Does a Typical Boarding Day Look Like?

There really isn’t a single schedule that fits every dog. Some dogs wake up ready to play. Others would prefer a leisurely morning and a comfortable place to lounge. Some enjoy spending time with other dogs, while others are perfectly happy doing their own thing.

We adjust the day based on the dogs in our care.

A typical day includes regular potty breaks and outdoor time in our fully enclosed backyard, meals according to your dog’s normal feeding schedule, supervised activity, plenty of downtime and rest, and individual attention throughout the day.

We want dogs to be comfortable—not overstimulated.

Boarding itself is already a change from your dog’s normal routine. Maintaining a calm environment and allowing adequate rest can make a tremendous difference in helping dogs settle in and enjoy their stay.

Do You Walk Dogs During Boarding?

No, and this is an intentional safety decision. Boarding dogs remain on our property during their stay and have access to our secure, fully walled backyard for potty breaks, fresh air, exercise, and play.

Even a dog who is normally an excellent walker is staying in an unfamiliar neighborhood, away from their usual people and routine. Rather than introducing the additional variables that come with taking a boarding dog off property, we keep our guests within our secure home and yard environment.

Your dog’s physical safety always comes first.

How Many Dogs Do You Board at One Time?

This is probably one of the questions we receive most often.

The answer is: we do not have one fixed number.

Our capacity is determined by the needs of the individual dogs staying with us—not by how many dogs we can physically fit into the space.

A group of easygoing, experienced boarding guests may require a very different level of management than dogs who are younger, more anxious, have special needs, need additional supervision, or simply require more individual attention.

Before accepting reservations, we consider the temperament, energy level, care requirements, compatibility, and individual needs of the dogs already scheduled.

There will never be an outrageous number of dogs packed into our home. That simply isn’t the type of boarding experience we provide.

Our goal is not to maximize occupancy. Our goal is to make sure we have the time, space, and attention necessary to care for every dog appropriately.

Does My Dog Have to Play With Other Dogs?

No.

Your dog does need to be safe around both people and other dogs, but that does not mean they need to be a social butterfly.

Some dogs love having canine companions. Others prefer to coexist without much interaction. Some would rather spend their afternoon relaxing in their own space.

We respect those differences.

We do not accept dogs with a history of aggression toward dogs or people. However, a dog who simply prefers more personal space or isn't particularly interested in playing with other dogs may still be perfectly suited to our boarding environment.

Is Crate Training Required?

Yes. Dogs must be crate trained in order to board with Burbank Pet Sitting.

Crates are an important part of how we maintain a safe, structured environment when caring for multiple dogs. Dogs are fed separately in their crates so there is no competition around food. They also sleep in their crates at night.

Even dogs who are perfectly comfortable together during the day can behave differently around food, when tired, or when settling down for the night. Providing each dog with their own secure space eliminates unnecessary risks and gives everyone an opportunity to decompress.

For us, crate use isn't about convenience. It's part of our safety protocol.

What Should I Bring for My Dog?

We deliberately keep packing simple.

Please bring:

• Your dog’s regular food for the entire stay

• Any medications your dog needs

• Up to one comfort item, such as a bed or favorite blanket

That’s it.

Please leave toys and extra belongings at home. Toys can create competition between dogs, and keeping personal belongings to a minimum helps us maintain an organized, safe environment.

Your dog doesn't need a suitcase to have a great stay.

Can You Give My Dog Medication?

Yes. We can administer many oral and injectable medications as part of your dog’s care.

Medication information should be provided clearly so we can follow your dog’s established schedule and instructions.

Food, medication, and other health-related routines are taken seriously because consistency is an important part of both physical safety and helping your dog feel comfortable while away from home.

What About Anxious Dogs?

We understand that even dogs who are happy and confident at home may experience some anxiety when their people leave. That’s one of the reasons we prioritize a home environment, predictable routines, appropriate rest, and individualized attention.

Our goal isn't to keep dogs constantly entertained. In fact, nonstop stimulation can make an already uncertain dog even more overwhelmed.

Instead, we pay attention to what each dog is telling us.

Some dogs settle quickly. Others need a little more reassurance, quiet time, or space before they feel comfortable. Whenever possible, we structure their experience to reduce unnecessary stress and help them find a comfortable rhythm.

Your dog’s emotional health matters just as much as keeping them physically safe.

How Will I Know How My Dog Is Doing?

We know boarding can be stressful for humans too. You shouldn't have to spend your vacation wondering whether your dog is eating, sleeping, having fun, or adjusting well.

We provide daily photos and updates so you can see how your dog is doing throughout their stay.

And if you’re wondering how things are going, you are always welcome to reach out during our working hours. Send us a text, ask how your dog is doing, and we’re happy to provide an update or send another photo.

That communication isn't an extra. Your peace of mind is part of the service.

Why Do We Have So Many Safety Policies?

You may notice that we have clear requirements around things like crate training, feeding, what dogs can bring, interactions between dogs, and remaining on our property during boarding.

None of these policies exist simply to make things easier for us.

They exist because caring for someone else's dog is an enormous responsibility.

Dogs are animals with individual personalities, instincts, stress responses, preferences, and needs. Even wonderful dogs can behave differently when they are away from home.

Our job is to anticipate those variables rather than react to a preventable problem afterward.

We would much rather have a thoughtful safety policy in place that we never need than take an unnecessary risk with someone's beloved pet.

Is Home Boarding Right for My Dog?

Burbank Pet Sitting's boarding service can be a great fit for dogs who are comfortable in a home environment, crate trained, safe around people and other dogs, and able to adapt to being away from their normal home and family.
